TPE Pickleball Selection Guide: Injection Molding or Roto-molding?
When choosing a pickleball, have you ever been confused about whether to choose an injection molded ball or a roto-molded ball?
Don't worry, this guide will help you make a wise choice!
Appearance Difference:
Roto-molded balls, also known as "one-piece balls", have smooth inner walls and no weld lines, and are often used in competitive games, especially the 40-hole design. Injection molded balls, also known as "split balls", have a weld line in the middle of the ball holes, usually divided into 40 holes (outdoor use) and 26 holes (indoor use).
Manufacturing process:
Roto-molded balls use a complex roto-molding process, heating and rotating PE plastic powder, and then drilling to obtain the finished product, so the cost is relatively high. Injection molded balls use an injection molding machine to melt TPE plastic particles and inject them into the mold. After cooling, they form two half-spheres, which are then welded together, and the cost is relatively low.
Performance characteristics:
Rotational molded balls are usually slightly heavier than injection molded balls, with higher flight stability, suitable for those who pursue precision. Injection molded balls are lighter, suitable for beginners and indoor use, and their surface texture can provide better friction and elasticity.
⚡ Durability and consistency:
Rotationally molded balls are harder and more durable, with more consistent flight trajectory and elasticity, making them ideal for official competitions. Injection molded balls may be more easily damaged due to weld lines, but are more suitable for daily entertainment and light training.
